What does "open" mean?
Two distinct uses of ÒopenÓ and ÒclosedÓ
with reference to the nature of the
universe:

Whether anything outside the universe can
penetrate it (open) or not (closed)
–
Whether the universe will expand forever
(open) or eventually collapse (closed)
The former is more common in theological
discussions, the latter in scientific.
