About this time there livedJesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to callhim a man. For he was one who wrought surprising feats and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth gladly. He won over many Jews and many of the Greeks. He was the Messiah. When Pilate, on hearing him accusedby men of highest standing among us, hadcondemned him to be crucified, those who had inthe first place come to love him did not give uptheir affection for him. On thethird day he appeared to them restored tolife, for the prophets had prophesied theseand countless other marvelous things about him. Josephus, Antiquities18.63-64
